and Seminar on the ‘Coordinates and Compulsions of India’s
Foreign Policy’

India Foundation organized the First Annual Krishnaswamy Memorial
Lecture at the India International Centre, New Delhi on the
2nd of August, 2011 in collaboration with MAKAIAS and the
IFCI.
His Excellency Shri M.K.Narayanan, Hon’ble Governor
of West Bengal
(Speech) chaired the Memorial Lecture delivered
by Padma Vibhushan Shri Brajesh Chandra Mishra (Speech).
As former National Security Advisors, both highlighted Subrahmanyam’s
contribution to the nation’s strategic thought and articulated
the essence of contemporary Indian foreign policy. Ambassador
Arundhati Ghose, Commodore Uday Bhaskar and Dr.C.Raja Mohan
spoke about the profound impact that Subrahmanyam had on the
strategic culture of the country.

The Subrahmanyam Memorial
Lecture was followed by a National Seminar organized by the
Foundation in collaboration with MAKAIAS on ‘Coordinates
and Compulsions of India’s Foreign Policy’. The
contemporary crucibles of India’s foreign policy concerns
were identified and debated by a distinguished panel of speakers.
The Conference was inaugurated by opening remarks from Shri
Jawhar Sircar, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, GoI, Vice Admiral
P.J.Jacob (Chairperson, GIF) and Prof.Omprakash Mishra (Member
Secretary, GIF). The deliberations of the Seminar were based
upon the observations and arguments put forward by Lt.Gen.
S.S.Mehta, Mr.S.D.Pradhan, Dr.Deep Datta-Ray, Commodore Uday
Bhaskar, Prof. Sanjukta Bhattacharya, Dr.Shibashis Chatterjee,
Prof.Hari Vasudevan, Dr.C.Raja Mohan and Prof.Joyashree Roy.
