Interactive Session with Dr. Michael Kugelman

In an interactive session organized by the Global India Foundation at  Jadavpur University, Kolkata, on 4th November 2014, Dr Michael Kugelman, from the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, discussed US-India Relations in the contemporary period and its possible impact for India-Pakistan relations. While he anticipated better relations with the US in the coming days, he was however apprehending deterioration in India-Pakistan relations after the US drawdown in Afghanistan at the end of 2014. India may expect more terror attacks in future, he said. Ambassador Salman Haidar, Vice Chairperson, Global India Foundation and Former Foreign Secretary, Government of India, chaired the session. Admiral P J Jacob, Chairman, Global India Foundation in his brief remarks brought out the tendency of hyphenating India and Pakistan in the US foreign policy approach. Prof. Omprakash Mishra concluded the session by saying that even while America means business, it has often failed to conclude them as evidenced by the continuing instability and chaos in Iraq and Afghanistan.
